Dragonslayer Dimensions...
Those dimensions may be right, more or less. I have been looking at pics of the Dragonslayer online tonight. Comparing the version shown in the anime vs the manga, they are not the same size. The one shown in the anime is BIGGER, without doubt. It is longer and wider and thicker... I think the Dreamcast videogame got it's visual design of Gatts mostly from the anime. The videogame's Dragonslayer is bigger still, wider so that it may be used as a shield. I will make a few drawings of both versions of the Dragonslayer and put them online tonight or tomorrow.
The blade isn't always drawn at the same length though... In a fashion similar to Vampire Hunter D's sword, the Dragonslayer sometimes seems to shrink or grow for dramatic effect. On Gatts' back, the entire weapon seems to be seven feet long from pointed tip to tassled hilt. Once it is unsheathed the blade alone seems to range between 6'-6" and 7'-6" in length.
So I decided to split the difference, calling the blade 7'-0" long for both the anime and manga. The sword's handle seems to be around 18" long, though sometimes it looks to be only 15". In the manga the blade looks a little more than a foot wide at the base, I'm thinking 15" wide, tapering over 6'-6" to a little less than a foot at 9", then sharpening to a point for the final 6" of it's length. In the anime and videogame it seems the blade is closer to 18" wide at its base. It tapers for 6'-1½" to a width of about 12" and the rest forms the final point. The Dragonslayer does appear to be about 2½" thick in the manga... But the anime and videogame make it seem to be as much as 4" thick at its stoutest, perhaps diminishing to 2½" or 3" along its length.
And yes, all this is based upon pure guesswork.
